On September 25, 2025, the International Culture and Education Charity Foundation (ICECF) signed a Sisterhood Agreement with the Taiwan Association for Promoting Chinese Traditional Culture and Filial Piety in Taipei, Taiwan.

This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between Japan and Taiwan in promoting filial piety culture on an international scale. The signing ceremony gathered guests from politics, education, and business circles, as well as many young participants. The venue was filled with the powerful message: “人人行孝道、孝道人人行!” — “Let everyone practice filial piety; let filial piety live in everyone!” It was a warm and meaningful occasion to reaffirm the importance of putting filial love into action.

In Taiwan, under the principle of “Among all virtues, filial piety comes first” (百善孝為先), nationwide filial piety activities have continued for 13 consecutive years. One of the most touching practices is the “Gratitude Foot-Washing Ceremony”, in which participants wash the feet of their parents or teachers as an expression of love and appreciation — an act that awakens the heart and spreads hope throughout society.

In Japan, ICECF has been incorporating the spirit of filial piety into education through the Filial Piety Essay Contest, calligraphy exhibitions, and online exchange programs. Outstanding works are selected for publication, and scholarships are awarded to encourage students. The published works are available at the National Diet Library and libraries and bookstores across Japan.

Looking ahead, ICECF will continue to organize International Filial Piety Forums and Youth Exchange Events in Taiwan, Japan, and Korea, providing opportunities for young people across Asia to connect through the shared value of filial piety.

ICECF Chairperson Motoko Tabata stated:
“Filial piety is not only an Asian virtue but a universal human value. Respecting and appreciating one’s parents nurtures compassion toward others and society as a whole. This Japan–Taiwan partnership marks a new beginning — one that connects hearts beyond borders.”

ICECF will continue to uphold the spirit of filial piety and promote educational, cultural, and humanitarian activities to share this timeless virtue with the world.
